Greensprings Vacation Resort is located minutes away from award-winning golf courses. Every course offers a combination of beautiful scenery and challenging greens. Williamsburg’s golf courses provide a truly unique and exciting experience for avid and novice golfers alike. To help narrow down your search for the perfect course, we’ve put together a list of Williamsburg’s best.
The Yorktown Course
Designed by renowned architect Tom Clark, the Yorktown Course at Williamsburg National Golf Club has a range of tee options for both seasoned and novice golfers. Clark’s Yorktown layout provides a great mix of classic course design with a few modern twists. The Yorktown’s back nine is among the most unique and interesting in the Williamsburg area with three par 5’s, three par 4’s and three par 3’s. The Yorktown provides the perfect complement to the Jamestown Course. Contrasting designs and putting surfaces on the Yorktown and Jamestown courses provide club members, locals and traveling golfers with two distinctly different golf experiences.
The Jamestown Course
Designed by the Nicklaus Design Group, this 4-star course is a favorite for Williamsburg golfers. The par 72 Jamestown course measures close to 7,000 yards from the championship tees and has five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The Jamestown Course has served as a proud host to the PGA Tour Michelob Open Qualifier on three occasions. It has received numerous awards including “One of the Ten Best Courses you can play in Virginia” by Golf Digest Magazine.
The Jamestown Course greens were renovated and resurfaced with Champion Bermuda grass in 2017. Bermuda grass grows well in Williamsburg’s hot & humid summer climate, ensuring year-round premium playing conditions. Greensprings Vacation Resort is located just 1.8 miles from The Jamestown Course, so there is nothing to stop you from playing at this amazing course.
The Blackheath is the most picturesque of three Ford’s Colony courses because there are 13 holes that feature water. Every green is guarded by bunkers and the course features numerous doglegs with undulating fairways. Blackheath is the only course at the Country Club that plays to a par 71.
The Blue Heron is a continuous 18-hole course that consists of long challenging par 3’s and par 5’s. The course has large generous fairways carved out of the dense wetlands. The Blue Heron has new Champion Bermuda greens, which provide the smoothest surfaces throughout the year. This is the longest of the three Ford's Colony courses and contains many different species of birds, fish and other wildlife.
The Marsh Hawk course opened in 1985 with traditional tree-lined fairways. It has small undulating greens with strategically placed bunkers. Narrow fairways, bunkers, natural lakes, and elevation changes are the defenses of this course. Marsh Hawk was the host of the 1998 and 1999 Virginia State Opens, as well as a Monday Qualifier for the 2005 – 2007 Henrico County Open and a Monday Qualifier for the PGA Tour’s Michelob Championship for 12 straight years.
